Senate May Vote on Virus Aid This Week

White House and House Speaker yet to agree on terms.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said a proposal will be introduced in the Senate this week to provide additional coronavirus relief, and a vote could be scheduled before the week is ended.

He said the proposal, expected to be “skinny” with a far smaller scope than what passed the House of Representatives, would focus on “some of the very most urgent healthcare, education, and economic issues.”

“It does not contain every idea our party likes,” he said. “I am confident Democrats will feel the same. Yet Republicans believe the many serious differences between our two parties should not stand in our way of agreeing where we can agree and making law that helps our nation.”

Negotiations between the White House and the Speaker of the House remain stalled. The president’s Chief of Staff Mark Meadows said over the weekend that Speaker Pelosi would “rather have nothing” in terms of a new coronavirus relief package than bring the price tag down and negotiate.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For members of the Senate as they move forward to a slimmed down version of a relief package for the American people.
  • For bipartisan cooperation in Congress during this election season.
